Art and Pumpkin Festival – Half Moon Bay, California
Not too far from San Francisco, and even closer to SFO Airport sits Half Moon Bay right along the California coast. If you haven’t visited before, please swing through, and that’s especially a good idea on October 19 and 20th during the town’s annual festival. They have crazy carving contests, a pumpkin parade, live music, and much more as the town does its best to stake its claim as “world’s pumpkin capital.” Admission is free, but bring some spending cash for the pumpkin beer and margaritas as well as for the pie-eating contests.
Pumpkin Fest – New York, New York
When it comes to celebrating the season, there’s no need to escape the city as New York has its very own annual pumpkin festival going on at the Central Park Bandshell on October 26th. It’s free to all and runs rain or shine, so you can put this one on the calendar without fear. There’s a haunted house, a pumpkin patch, pumpkin carving, and puppet performances. Best of all—straight out of Harry Potter—there are live Quidditch matches.
Sarasota Pumpkin Festival – Sarasota, Florida
The Sunshine State isn’t exactly famous for its fall weather, but that doesn’t mean they don’t know a thing or two about the season. Its festival runs between October 25 and 27th in downtown Sarasota at Payne Park. There’s a pumpkin patch, trick-or-treating, hayrides, and even carnival rides and games. Just save room for the pie-eating contest, as a series of events runs each and every day. Admission will set you back $5 per person.
