Swap Your Auto Before Starting Up with Hertz's New Mobile Functions

They might not rely on mobile apps and technology like the new kids on the block over at Silvercar, but Hertz does know a thing or two about the rental car experience. They’re leveraging their mobile capabilities to reward some of their best customers, and they’re introducing a nifty little feature that might brighten your day as your approach the rental car garage.

Hertz Gold Plus Rewards members now have the ability to switch up their rental car selection right from their phone. That means changing your mind before buckling up, as Hertz will let you choose and switch to a different car with a few clicks, swipes, and gestures.

If you decide to play along with Hertz you can expect to be offered up a range of different vehicles on your phone, and then you’re able to rent a new one instead of your initial reservation. Apparently you’re good to go after three clicks on your phone, and you don’t even have to talk to an agent. Right now things should be available at around 50 airports across the country, but we’re sure the offerings will only go up from here.

Sure it sounds all fine and dandy, but we’re pretty confident that this is just another way to have you shell out a little more than you bargained for. When you booked your trip—and chose Hertz for your car—we’re sure that an economy car sounded great, but of course the convertible is now a way better idea. So just make sure you watch that travel budget before upgrading, so you can save some money for souvenirs.
