Etihad Will Give Economy Flyers a First Class Ride to the Airport, for a Price

There are plenty of airlines out there offering up a free ride to the airport for their first—and sometimes business—class flyers, but that’s not usually the case for those stuck in the back of the airplane. For those people—like us—that usually means taking a taxi, hopping aboard the train, or just parking in the long-term lot. Well it sounds like Etihad Airways is looking to change that, as they’ve begun offering up transportation to the airport for some economy class passengers.

The carrier is now providing their chauffeur service to passengers seated in Coral Economy, as long as the passengers are doing their thing to or from London-Heathrow Airport. It may be limited to one airport as of now, but that’s a heck of a lot better than what a lot of other carriers are offering.

Etihad is trying their best to keep things priced similarly to other forms of public transportation, and a ride to the airport with Etihad will be priced like taking a cab over to the airport—but with a lot more service. If you’re shelling out the extra cash you can expect a greeting within the airport, luggage assistance, and a guaranteed ride in a BMW or Mercedes—no Lincoln Town Cars here.

Everything is available to be booked right online alongside your airline reservation, and you’re even able to change up your car preference. While things come at a cost for those seating in the economy cabin, first and business class passengers will still enjoy the complimentary pick-up and drop-off services. Maybe Etihad is hoping that once the economy class passengers get a taste of the premium cabins, it’ll only be a matter of time before they’re paying to upgrade to Diamond First Class and Pearl Business Class.
