Designed by Thom Filicia, who was chosen by Architectural Digest in partnership with Delta for the project, the two Sky Clubs will have bars and seating that don't distract from runway views. Those views are actually a highlight, kind of a reward for the frequent flyers and premium class travelers who'll find their way up here. For his nice little press release quote, Filicia explains his vision: “Amid the hustle and bustle of the airport experience, we seek to create a refuge, which represents Delta’s dedication to elevated design and pays homage to an elegant lifestyle of travel and the spirit of flight."

First to enjoy a Sky Deck will be JFK, since it will open concurrent with Delta's new flagship Sky Club, the largest, to be located within the massive $1.2 billion expansion of JFK Terminal 4. That's billion with a "B."

We previously toured you around the construction, but what may have seemed like just a photo of raw roof was actually a hint that it was destined for greater. JFK and ATL may not be the first airports to sport rooftop decks, but having them airside (post-security) is very, very rare. Singapore-Changi most famously has several rooftop gardens, but rare is the runway view, and London-Heathrow has a tiny spot mostly used as a VIP space. The Delta Sky Decks will blow them out of the water by showing off a comfortable space that highlights, not hides, the airport activity. It's going to be sooo awesome.
