Just to get an idea of what’s going on in the wacky world of airfare, we did a quick search during the weekend of February 2 and 3. We figured you’d suck it up and go to work on the Friday before the game, and then just leave Saturday and return on Monday. For those leaving from San Francisco you’re looking it around $1100 on US Airways, and that includes a stop in Charlotte on the way there. However, the way home is a nonstop on Monday morning all the way over to San Francisco. We checked flights with Southwest Airlines too, and many of them are already sold out. Obviously the Super Bowl plus a transcontinental flight doesn’t really create the best deal in airfare.
For those heading down to Louisiana from the Baltimore area, there’s better news when it comes to booking your airfare. Things are hovering around $700 for flights that leave on February 2 and return on February 4. Once again it’s US Airways leading the way with the best big game fares, but United has some similar fares. Nonstop options are available thanks to Southwest Airlines, but—bummer—they’re already sold out. Don’t bother driving up Washington, DC to fly out either, because it’s the same situation. Although there are some nonstop flights out of Reagan Washington National Airport for around $900 round trip aboard US Airways.
Good luck with your airfare and good luck to your team. Now just remember to pick up some tickets before you get to New Orleans.
