It's Air China, JetBlue and Etihad with This Week's Newest Routes

Sometimes it’s hard to stay on top of all the new route announcements that come our way, so we’ve complied a little bit of a rundown below. As long as you can afford the fares, this should definitely help add to your passport stamp collection.

· Air China:
The government paperwork is still in the mail, but if things go as planned then Air China will be touching down over in Houston. The plan is to link Houston with Beijing as frequently as four times per week, as Air China wants to start heading back and forth beginning on July 11. Boeing 777-300s will do the heavy lifting across the globe, but there’s no doubt that it’s going to be a long haul to get where you’re headed. Air China is buddies with United thanks to the Star Alliance, so we’re pretty sure that Houston is a great place to help domestic flyers hook up with their new Air China connection.

· Etihad:
If you’ve had enough of Europe then give Etihad a call, as they want to get you from Amsterdam to Abu Dhabi once you’re done doing your thing over in the Netherlands. The plan is to start the new flights just in time for the busy summer travel season, as May 15 is the day that they’ve circled on their calendars. Airbus A330s look to be the planes of choice for this new option, and Etihad will team up with KLM to market the flight as a codeshare option too.

· JetBlue:
Florida is usually pretty warm, but if you need to escape the Sunshine State for even better weather and beaches JetBlue has you more than covered. Their latest option is scheduled to hit the skies as soon as June 27, as the plan is to fly nonstop between Fort Lauderdale and San José, Costa Rica. For those who like to plan ahead the flights are already up for grabs, and if you act quickly you might be able to score a one-way flight for as low as $129 each way. The flights are scheduled to leave Florida around 9:00am or so local time, and thanks to the magic of time zones will arrive down in Costa Rica around 10:00am local time.

· AirTran:
We’re still waiting for Southwest Airlines and AirTran to become one true big happy family, but until then we’ll happily accept international flights from Southwest on behalf of AirTran. This week it looks like the front office is busy preparing some new options, as Chicago-Midway is getting new nonstop flights in an out of spots like Montego Bay, Jamaica and Punta Cana, Dominican Republic. The flights should be available for your ticketing pleasure already, but you’ll have to wait to start flying around. The flights to and from Jamaica begin on April 14, and the flights to the Dominican Republic will start on May 19.

· Virgin America:
There’s been hints of a little financial difficulties for the bank accounts over at Virgin America, but when it comes to new routes—at least for now—they’re going full speed ahead. They’re adding to their network of flights in and out of Las Vegas, as they’re starting nonstop service back and forth between Los Angeles and Las Vegas. Even they recognize that the party will start—or continue—as soon as passengers step aboard. April 22 is the day things will start doing their thing, and it’ll be three daily nonstop flights between the two cities and states. For those looking to make the trip one-way fares are on sale, and things can be had for as little as $39.
