Newark Mayor Cory Booker Eats His Cupcakes at the Airport

Newark Mayor Cory Booker is a bit of a social media celebrity. In addition to running a difficult city, starting a campaign run for a 2014 Senate seat and lending his support to the state after Hurricane Sandy, he manages to keep up with his followers on Twitter. Spotted a pothole in Newark? Tweet him and he'll take care of it. Witnessed a crime? Call 911 first, but tweeting at Cory to follow-up seems to yield results. It's also pretty clear he loves his airport, Newark-Liberty International.

Last night, Mayor Booker tweeted that though the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey run EWR and he has no say on what goes down there, he does know where to get a good cupcake. We asked for details, and this morning he answered:

It's pretty obvious that Booker's social media addiction is paying off in spades.

He even used an EWR lounge to broker that famous $100 million deal with Facebook's Mark Zuckerberg to benefit Newark schools.

Crumbs is a national chain, with most stores found around Los Angeles, Washington DC and New York City, but the outpost in EWR is currently their only airport location. Ever seen someone take an dozen box of Krispy Kreme donuts as a carry-on? We have a friend who flew to Cambodia with a cupcake for a friend there. These are the people who will most benefit from an in-terminal cupcake shop.

Update! Mayor Booker has just replied to us again, to clear up the fact that Crumbs is only one of his favorite places as he is "a recovering cupcake addict."

He Goes All In

When HotelChatter posted on Twitter about the opening of the first EWR hotel in 40 yrs (http://www.hotelchatter.com/admin/story/2012/9/24/131419/806 )and someone clowned it, Mayor Booker got in the posters BEHIND and challenged them to come down and see the hotel before blasting it. He doesn't play when it comes to social media!
