United Will Bring Your Bags Right to Your Hotel or Home

Despite what we thought the future would hold for us, there still doesn’t appear to be a way to transport our suitcase from here to there without lugging it around. Teleportation still isn’t a thing—and it’s probably not coming anytime soon—so United is trying to improve on the whole experience with their new baggage delivery service.

They’re patterning with another group of luggage luggers, as BagsVIP is helping them out with this new delivery service. Basically it’s going to allow you to skip the wait at the baggage carousel, as a (hopefully) friendly employee will assist your luggage in making its final leg of the journey right to your hotel or home. They promise that you will get your bags within four hours of your arrival as long as your destination is located within 40 miles of the airport. They’ll go a little bit farther as well, but it’s going to be a six hour wait if you’re more than 40 miles—but less than 100 miles—away from the airport.

To take advantage of things you just make a separate baggage delivery reservation after you’re all set with your flight details. At the airport you’ll check your bags as usual, but just be aware that you’ll still be stuck paying any associated bag fees. After that your baggage tags will be identified with whatever they need to be identified with, and that’ll alert the BagsVIP people to scoop up your luggage and bring it to you. Just don’t get too relaxed and comfy at the pool, as you will need to sign for your stuff.

That’s pretty much the basics of what you need to know, but there’s all kinds of FAQs that you can peruse right over here. As for the cost, it’ll set you back around $30 for one bag, $40 for a pair of bags, and $50 for three to eight pieces of luggage. Right now there are around six airports offering up the service, as Boston, Honolulu, Chicago, Houston, Orlando, and Los Angeles are already getting in on the fun. We're sure that more will become available as the service catches on, so don't worry if it's not at your favorite spot just yet.

As for the service overall we’re kind of okay with carrying our stuff ourselves, but we certainly like the option.
