Jaunted

Sitting back to watch the scenery fly by just out of the station in Brisbane, we read the train info and discovered the details on this little bit of brightness staring at us.

The Cooktown Orchid became Queensland's floral emblem in 1959, marking the state's centenary. Long before the actual 100 year anniversary, the native flower stood as the unofficial state flower and was a symbol of the tropical climate of the region. Flourishing in the tropical northern areas of Queensland, the flower can be found growing on trees and rocks of the humid rainforests in the Cape York Peninsula.

Clickety-clacking up the tracks on our way north to the sugar cane fields of Proserpine, the orchid was that Little Thing that officially set us in relaxed journey mode. So it's not just airline first class suites that treat their guests to a special flower here and there.
