These walksspanning 550km of "spectacular New Zealand terrain from alpine peaks to glacial valleys, native bush, rainforests and golden beaches"consist of Milford Track, Abel Tasman Coast Track, Heaphy Track, Kepler Track, Lake Waikaremoana Track, Tongariro Northern Circuit, Whanganui Journey, Rakiura Track and the Routeburn Track. Winning means a bit more than walking, however; the trekkers will be joined along the routes by AirNZ and DOC staff and "celebrity guests."
To enter, first read the official rules here, then create either a YouTube video or Pinterest board that demonstrates "why they believe they deserve to win a place on this wild adventure." It also would probably help if you could demonstrate you're of moderate fitness and "a personality, creativity, a knack for blogging and story telling as well as a passion for outdoor adventure."
Entries will be accepted RIGHT HERE until October 22, 2012. And, for once, this won't be a popularity contest; a judging panel will have the final say of the shortlisted applicants. Then, cross off February and March 2013 from your calendar as that's when all the walking will go down.
Of course if you don't win, there's still a way to book a Great Walks package with real money, through Air New Zealand right here.
Here's a little preview of what to expect:
