Save the Date for the Space Shuttle Endeavour's Grand LAX Arrival

The Enterprise lands at JFK

We know, we know. Just as New York City got its breath back back hyperventilating over the arrival of the Enterprise Space Shuttle, Los Angeles is all set to steal the thunder with their very own Shuttle arrival.

If the weather is good, expect the Space Shuttle Endeavour to land on the back of a NASA Boeing 747 (a bit like this) at LAX on September 20. Plane your plane spotting now!

From there, the LA Times has that the Endeavour will shack up in a United hangar at LAX until it makes its big move through the streets of downtown Los Angeles on October 12.

Unlike with the barge that brought NY's shuttle to its retirement home atop of the Intrepid aircraft carrier, LA's Endeavour maneuvering will require an even lighter touch as it will creep along at 2mph to its home at the California Science Center. Even LA will have to have some work done: "Trees will be pruned back or taken out. Power lines will be raised. Traffic signals will be removed."

Check out the LA Times for further details on streets effected, where and when to #spottheshuttle, and a tad bit more information on the exhibit, which will open to the public on October 20.
