Let American Airlines Do the Heavy Lifting with New Baggage Delivery Service
American Airlines wants your bags, and they want to be responsible for them all the way to your hotel, house, or cubicle. We’re a little hesitant trusting the airlines with our luggage, but American hopes that they can change the minds of folks like us.
The airline is rolling out a new luggage delivery service and of course it’s going to come with a fee. Technically it’s not American Airlines running the behind-the-scenes stuff, as they’re partnering with BAGS VIP Luggage Delivery to get it done. The service started up earlier in the week, and it’ll set you back about $30 for your first bag and $40 for two bags. All in all, there will be roughly 200 airports across the country where the service should be available, so both your leisure and business travels should be pretty much covered.
Customers may book the baggage service with the flight, and just drop off their checked suitcase at the airport. Instead of heading to the baggage carousel, bags will then be sent off within 40 miles of the arrival airport. The only bummer is that you’re still stuck paying checked baggage fees with the airline, and of course that’s in addition to the cash you’re shelling out for this new delivery service.
American Airlines isn’t the first airline to do something like this—we’re pretty sure United used to do something similar—so it’s hardly ground breaking; however, it’s nice to know the option exists.
