Head Off to Archery Camp in the Spirit of 'The Hunger Games'

August 16, 2012 at 2:40 PM | by | Comments (0)

Once archery was only for hunters and teens stuck at summer camp, but now it's becoming cool again.

Thanks to The Hunger Games Trilogy, in which heroine Katniss Everdeen used a bow and arrow to survive, archery is attracting a new fan base - young women - and the sport is welcoming them with open arms. Boring uniforms are being replaced with more youthful gear and archery centers around the country are adding additional classes.

If you've been inspired by Katniss' mad archery skills and want to try it yourself, there are several adult camps and retreats that offer classes in the sport as an activity, like Camp Jewell near Hartford, CT.

Camp Jewell is offering a retreat weekend for women on September 7-9, 2012. The weekend, meant to help you "grow in spirit, mind and body" includes lots of activities, like hiking, canoeing, kayaking, and of course, archery. You can find out more about the getaway weekend at campjewell.com.
