· Allegiant:
Things must be going pretty well for Allegiant and their plans for all those flights between Hawaii and the mainland, as they’re already looking to expand to a few more cities. Beginning in February, Allegiant is looking to link Spokane, Washington and Boise, Idaho with nonstop flights all the way over to Honolulu.
The new flights should run just once per week initially, and all the flying fun will be done thanks to those new-to-the-airline Boeing 757s. Introductory fares start at just $180 each way—inclusive of taxes and fees—which isn’t too shabby if you ask us. Of course there are plenty of other fees and charges to put up with if you choose Allegiant, but we probably can deal with it in exchange for a few days of sun, sand, and snorkeling.
· Ethiopian AIrlines:
To celebrate the arrival of one of their first Boeing 787s, Ethiopian Airlines is kind of sending their new planes on a little bit of a tour. For those in the nifty fifty, the best to chance to hop aboard—or just see it in action—is when it does its thing on August 16. The plan is to link Washington Dulles with Addis Ababa, before the plan heads elsewhere to visit and show off its stuff.
In total there will be like 18 countries getting a 787 visit through August and September. AirlineRoute.net has the full scoop, but Saudi Arabia, South Africa, and India are just some of the other options.
· Alitalia:
Hitting up the low cost carriers is always a solid option over in Europe, and that’s especially the case when you’re looking to country hop during your trip abroad. However, if you’d rather stick to the larger carriers—that’s fine too—and Alitalia has you covered. They’re starting up—well, kind of bringing back—nonstop flights between Rome and Zurich starting at the end of October. There’ll be like 12 or so flights per week, and the Alitalia City Liner will be the ones responsible for providing the planes—Embraer 175s—and pilots.
