Training Camp Travel: Who Dat Say Dey Gonna Beat Dem Saints

July 13, 2012 at 12:01 PM | by | Comments (0)

Are you ready for some football?! There’s still a few months before the first official kickoff, but that doesn’t mean that there isn’t time for a sneak peek. Training camps are set to do their thing later this month, so if you’ve always wanted to check out the scrimmages and practices now’s the time to start planning:

The New Orleans Saints have had a pretty rough offseason thanks to the bounty scandal and the resulting suspensions and related punishments. Even without their usual head coach we’re still thinking that the team has a decent shot in 2012, as long as they finally wrap up contract negotiations with quarterback Drew Brees.

Games against the Packers and Giants might prove to be a little difficult, but if they can overcome some of the offseason turmoil they should be headed far into the playoffs.

The details:

· When's Camp:
Everyone knows that last year was a little different thanks to the offseason labor dispute, but thankfully this year the practices and scrimmages are set to start right on schedule. The Saints are getting ready to start doing their thing on July 24, and the official practices will begin a couple days later on July 26. After that the drills will run through August 16. It looks like they’ll be doing their thing later in the day with a lot of 4pm practices, as that should help cut down on the heat and humidity.

· Where's Camp:
Pretty much each and every training camp session is set to take place at the team’s headquarters in Metairie, Louisiana. However, they will also take the training camp schedule on the road at the beginning of August, as they’re set to travel up to Massachusetts for a preseason game against the New England Patriots. They’ll practice with the Patriots for a couple of days on August 7 and 8, and then will play the Patriots in a preseason game at Gillette Stadium.

· What's it Cost:
Just like in years past, the practices are open free of charge to all fans on a first-come first-served basis. That means you better get there early, as we’re certain that there will be plenty of fans looking for the best spot to check out the action and maybe just score an autograph. There are some bleacher seating options available, and you’re also welcome to stand along the fence. Thankfully even the parking should be free.

· What Else:
As of now there hasn’t been an announcement regarding an official fan day or other related events during the preseason schedule. It’s pretty unique that they’ll be practicing with—and against—the Patriots so that’s kind of neat. We’d just keep our eyes on the contract situation with Drew Brees, because if he’s not in camp it might not be as appealing to attend.
