Comic-Con Updates: No to Weapons, but Yes to 'The Goonies'

Each year the folks at San Diego Comic-Com make a few tweaks to their system, some that benefit fans, and some that seem to make life at the Con even more difficult.

Here are a few changes (both good and bad) to be aware of before heading out to SDCC this week:

· Twihards are already lined up outside the San Diego Convention Center for Thursday morning's Twilight panel, but this year they weren't allowed to bring some of the usual creature comforts, like tents, inflatable mats, large coolers, or even umbrellas, that make standing in line for days bearable. SDCC has greatly restricted what fans can have with them in line to accommodate more people. You can see the full list of restrictions on Comic-Con's official website.

· You might want to leave your weapons at home—even if they're made of plastic. All costumes that include any kind of weapon will now have to be checked at the Weapons Check Desk in the convention center lobby and then tied tightly to your costume each day.

· For the first time there will be an Opening Night Party for anyone with a badge. "Dawn of the Con," which will be hosted Rob Zombie, will begin at 5:30 p.m. at Petco Park on July 12.

· And, for those who want to get out of the convention center for a while, the TV show Extra will have an outdoor stage set up in Bayfront Park where they will be interviewing celebrities, hosting live performances and even screening geeky classics like The Goonies. A full schedule for "Extra at Comic-Con" can be found at thewb.com/comiccon.
