More Ways to Get Vertigo Coming to the Seattle Space Needle

When you think of Seattle, you're probably likely reminded of the rainy weather, Starbucks, and probably the Space Needle. Well the city isn’t doing anything about the weather and Starbucks is here to stay; however, they are looking to upgrade the city’s most famous architectural icon in hopes of scoring a few more tourist dollars.

Nothing is set in stone as of yet, but officials are prepping a plan to add some kind of unique observation deck to the city’s tower. In celebration of the needle’s 50th birthday, The Space Needle would like to add three glass cubes to the structure high in the sky.

The new observation cubes would be totally clear with a see-through bottom—remind you of any similar additions to a famous Chicago building? All visitors might not exactly enjoy them—especially those that can’t stand the 500-foot look down straight towards the ground. Seattle’s Landmarks Preservation Board still needs to review the plan and give final approval, but we’re thinking that they should just go for it.

Even without the new observation thingies, the Space Needle is definitely worth a visit this year. Chihuly Garden and Glass is a new exhibit right under the building, and is worth checking out if you’re impressed by those squiggly and colorful glass sculptures—we are.
