Four Giant Pieces of Modern Art You've Gotta See This Summer

'Tis the season for large-scale artworks to be unveiled to the swelling summer tourist crowds. This means more things to add to your own itinerary, if you're hopping around Los Angeles, London, Prague or New York in the next few months. Here's four new LARGE pieces of modern art to see this summer (for FREE!):

· Los Angeles
Artwork title: "Levitated Mass"
Artist: Michael Heizer
What it is: A 340-ton boulder set above a dipped walkway
Where it is: Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA)'s North Lawn
How long it'll be on display: no end date. More info


It will go up top of this plinth

· London:
Artwork title: "Written in Soap: A Plinth Project"
Artist: Meekyoung Shin
What it is: A recreation of the removed equestrian statue of The Duke of Cumberland atop the plinth, but in soap. As the weather erodes the statue, the perfumed soap will let out an aroma.
Where it is: Cavendish Square, north of Oxford Street
How long it'll be on display: 10 July 2012 – 30 June 2013 More info

· Prague:
Artwork title: "One Thousand and One Nights"
Artist: Lekim Ibragimov
What it is: A 215' x 26' canvas depicting the 1,001 nights tale through over 1,000 individual paintings
Where it is: Incheba Praha exhibition centre
How long it'll be on display: July 9-21 More info


· New York City:
Artwork title: "How I Roll"
Artist: Paola Pivi
What it is: A six-seat 1977 Piper Seneca airplane, suspended by its wingtips and forever doing somersaults. Though it turns off at night.
Where it is: Doris C. Freedman Plaza, aka the southeast corner of Central Park
How long it'll be on display: until August 26, 2012. More info
