Disney World and Universal Studios Hike Ticket Prices for Summer

Your summer vacation may have just gotten a little more expensive, as a couple pretty big theme parks have just increased their ticket prices—again. Universal Studios was the first to hike its admission prices a couple of weeks ago as the park raised the one-day ticket price from $85 to $88. That started the battle for the tourist dollars in Orlando, as officials at Disney World have reacted to the competition.

It seems like the parks want to be the most expensive option in town rather than the best deal. We guess the rationale is that if you only have one park from which to choose—and one day to visit—you might as well pay a couple extra bucks to visit the pricey one. After all, everyone know the best stuff costs the most—right?

Anyway, that means that Disney has now increased their ticket prices as well, and it will now set you and your family $89 per person to visit one of their four parks for just one day this year. Other prices were sent upwards as well, as now a four-day ticket will set you back $256 and that’s before adding on any other options like water parks or the ability to hop between parks. Even the annual passes went up—around 10 percent or so—as a whole year of fun is now $574 per person.

Not to be outdone by the Mickey and Friends down the road on I-4, there was another price update a few days later by Universal Studios. The park that’s home to The Simpsons, Harry Potter and Spider-Man raised their tickets again—up to $89 per day per person—just to match Disney World.

Let’s just hope things have settled down for now; however, we wouldn’t be surprised to see what Shamu is up to, as one day tickets to SeaWorld start at just $82.

An annual event

Disney does this every year in June, so you can beat the system by buying your tickets in May if you know that you will be visiting in the second half of the year. Most tickets are good for 14 after their first use.
