Virgin Australia Puts Some Elbow Grease Into Sprucing Up Melbourne Airport

June 14, 2012 at 8:54 AM | by | Comment (1)

Travelers flying through Melbourne on Virgin Australia will have a much more pleasurable experience when checking in and heading to their gate. Currently, the terminal is a bit tired and in definite need of a spruce up and—hey!—they're giving it one.

Virgin's Aussie airline has already commenced works on the shiny new terminal and hopes to have it completed by the end of the year. Of course, the redesign of the space will be a modern facelift to create a more contemporary and spacious feel. This is just part of the massive overhaul we have been witnessing with the Virgin Australia brand for the past 12 months.

Once completed, the new terminal will sport premium curbside valet service, a new corporate lounge and plenty of wide open area. All of that space will also be outside too, with more room to park airplanes. After the refurbishment, Airbus A330s will be able to move a bit more easily near the terminal.

All of this comes just as the Virgin announces a codeshare with its stars-and-stripes brother, Virgin America. While the airline partnership is only for flights within the nifty fifty, it will nonetheless compliment the Virgin Australia update.

A new corporate lounge isn't part of this

Just an FYI: while you've called out "a new corporate lounge" as one of the features once the upgrade is completed, that shouldn't be read as meaning that the lounge will be part of Virgin's Melbourne terminal makeover, as this is the admittedly slick lounge which Virgin opened in May last year (see http://www.ausbt.com.au/photo-gallery-virgin-australia-s-new-melbourne-airport-lounge-now-open)...
