The Australian TV Show You Really Don't Want to Be On

Watch out. On your next trip down under, you could end up on TV before even getting through to baggage claim. Just like in America, international travelers to Australia get their passports stamped, collect their baggage and then head off to quarantine to declare anything which might not be welcome on Aussie shores. And now all this is a TV show called "Border Security."

The 30-minute guilty pleasure is filmed primarily in Sydney and Melbourne, but the chance of catching a glimpse of the reality show being filmed elsewhere is pretty good. It has also stopped to film in Brisbane, Perth and some seaports across the nation.

Not only is the show entertaining, it's educational. Australia has a long list of restricted items that travelers can and cannot bring into the country, so agents aren't just looking for that extra bottle of vodka from in-flight duty-free, but you may want to rethink the Chinese delicacy, bird's nest, cuz that's a no-no.

Each show focuses on about five border crossings and will feature illegal immigration, drug trafficking, and potentially harmful pests and diseases. We were fortunate enough that the cameras were nowhere to be seen when we had our Kopi Luwak confiscated after our trip to Bali.

If your travels are bringing you down under soon and you find the cameras in your face, please save the 'Hi Mom, I'm on TV!' for Skype.
