The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel probably won't win this weekend's box office, but there's no doubt it's the most travel-inspiring movie of the week, maybe the entire year.

The movie's plot revolves around a group of British retirees who decide to spend their retirement in less expensive India, where it was also filmed.

Most of the Marigold is set in Jaipur, Rajasthan for its "rich color palette" and constant chaos on the roads, a perfect background for a story about culture shock. But The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel in the film is actually Ravla Khempur, located in Khempur, about an hour outside of Udaipur.

The equestrian hotel is located in a quiet, rural setting that most tourists never see. The former tribal chieftain palace was chosen because it has become slightly run down—but not to the extent of being intolerable—just a little rough around the edges. The hotel also offers visitors plenty to keep themselves busy like horseback riding, camel safaris, and village sightseeing tours. Other must-see locations featured in the movie are the Amber Fort, a public well used as a swimming pool by locals, the historic Kanota Fort, just outside Jaipur, and the luxurious Lake Palace Hotel in Udaipur, which is actually located in a lake during monsoon season.
