PEOPLExpress Hits Trouble Before Even Hitting the Skies

They haven’t even starting flying yet, and they’re already in trouble. Unfortunately, that's the case for the new airline with an old name—PEOPLExpress—as Uncle Sam already isn’t too fond of one of their business practices.

The airline has been promoting memberships into what its calling “Club Travelati,” as it hopes to get potential passengers to sign up for their flight and travel discount program. They’ve already taken down all the information from their website, but basically they were selling a service before it was really even available. That didn’t go over too well with the US Department of Transportation, so now the airline-to-be is getting hit with a $10,000 fine.

PEOPLExpress was able to sell over 100 memberships before they got slapped on the wrist, so there were definitely quite a few potential passengers eager to relive the magic that was the former PEOPLExpress.

For now the airline is still on schedule to start doing its thing by the end of the year; however, we’ve got to say that we certainly have our doubts. If all goes according to plan it still looks like Newport News, Virginia will be the airline’s home base with destinations to Pittsburgh, Providence, West Palm Beach and Newark. We’ll keep you posted!
