Hop on the American Airlines to Asia Frequent Flyer Sale

The seemingly endless spring break vacation period is almost behind us, and that means it’s once again safe to travel. The crowds are smaller, the weather is warmer, and the deals are usually a little bit better. That’s definitely the case if you’re looking to head over to Asia, as American Airlines and Japan Airlines are running a pretty decent airfare sale for those looking to cash in frequent flyer miles.

Between April 6 and May 31, you can fly between North America—sorry Hawaii they’re excluding you—and Asia for just 40,000 American Airlines AAdvantage miles. That’s like a 40 percent discount, as it usually would cost you around 70,000 frequent flyer miles—plus taxes and fees of course—to get yourself from the nifty fifty over to Japan or China. If you’ve been saving up the airline miles in hopes of a dream redemption this might be a great time to cash in, but just remember that these flights are only an option in economy—and that’s a long time to be crammed into coach.

The frequent flyer sale is an option on both Japan Airlines and American Airlines, and that got us thinking. Japan Airlines is scheduled to start up nonstop flights between Boston and Tokyo aboard the Boeing 787 later this month, so maybe if you’re lucky, you could even score a seat on one of the world’s newest airplanes. We’re thinking about spending some time calling up a super friendly telephone representative later today to see what we can score. Just remember that mixing Japan Airlines and American Airlines awards tickets might cost a little more than the lowest 40,000 mile option, so be sure to run the numbers before booking.
