Too Scary for the Under-12s at Alton Towers

There’s scary theme park rides, terrifying theme park rides, and there’s the world’s most feared theme park ride. Alton Towers over in England seems to have achieved the honor of having one of the scariest rides around, and it’s so darn intense that the attraction has actually received a PG-13 rating—or at least the UK version.

The new Nemesis Sub-Terra ride is definitely not for amusement park rookies. The British Board of Film Classification has actually stepped in, and passed along a rating for something other than a movie for like the first time in over 100 years. There’s plenty of 3D—and 4D—content in the attraction, so they thought it was appropriate to step in and provide ample warning.

As a result of all the sci-fi content and horror elements the ride won’t be accessible to those under the age of 12, so even if your mom writes you a note you’re still going to miss out. It sounds like few details have been shared about what the ride is all about in advance of its grand opening, but it sounds like some of its elements are based on the original Nemesis ride that opened at the park back in 1994.

The basic idea behind the ride is that an alien egg has been discovered in a series of underground caves—and after that—well obviously all hell breaks loose. The ride is more of an experience rather than a straight forward roller coaster, but it looks like there’s 20-foot drop that will keep you further distracted and disorientated as you try not to scream. Sounds pretty darn fun if you ask us—despite the rating—thankfully we’re over the age of 12.
