It's Porter Airlines, Icelandair and US Airways Bringing This Week's New Routes

Sometimes it’s hard to stay on top of all the new route announcements that come our way, so we’ve complied a little bit of a rundown below. As long as you can afford the fares, this should definitely help add to your passport stamp collection.

· Icelandair:
There’s already plenty of options over to London aboard Icelandair, but there’s always room for a few more flights. This time the carrier is looking at London’s other huge airport, as it plans to send planes and people to London-Gatwick starting later this year.

The flights will head between London and Reykjavik a couple times per week beginning on October 18, and if all goes well the flights should run through April of 2013. Flights will do their thing on Thursdays and Sundays—great for a long weekend—and perfect for trying to catch a glimpse of the Northern Lights.

· Caribbean Airlines:
We heard that Caribbean Airlines was thinking about heading all the way across the Atlantic, and now it sounds like the new flights are official. The airline will be connecting Port of Spain—that’s in Trinidad and Tobago—with London-Gatwick. The flights will be doing their thing thanks to a little help from a Boeing 767, and it sounds like the flights should start heading back and forth on June 14.

Usually we think of heading down to the Caribbean during the chillier winter months, but we’re sure the residents of London can get used to checking out the islands during the summer months as well.

· Porter Airlines:
We keep saying that we finally need to get aboard a Porter Airlines flight to truly experience their onboard service, and maybe with their latest new route option we’ll finally cross it off our travel to-do list.

The carrier is looking to head to a new spot out of Toronto City Airport, and it looks like they’ll be flying all the way down to Washington-Dulles. The flight might be a little bit longer than some of Porter Airlines’ quicker jaunts around Canada, but we’re sure that free in-flight drinks—adult and otherwise—will keep you entertained. The new Toronto to DC flights will do their thing three times per day beginning on April 16, and if all goes accordingly to plan they might add a fourth daily flight on May 14.

· US Airways:
Many changes have been happening at Reagan Washington National Airport, as Delta and US Airways have been busy trading access to gates and flights at the airport. US Airways is on the move again, and it looks like they’re ready to head to a few new spots. One of the most exciting new options—because it kind of bends the rules—is a daily nonstop between Washington, DC and San Diego.

The flight will start on July 8 and will utilize some Airbus A319s to get the job done. That’s not all though, as there are also plans to connect the nation’s capital with Toronto, Montreal, and Minneapolis-St. Paul along with Augusta, Georgia and Fayetteville, Arkansas. Just remember to BYOSnacks, because you know you’re not getting anything for free up in the air with US Airways.

· Lufthansa:
It might not be a totally brandy new route, but it’s still worth noting that Lufthansa is on the move when it comes to the planes they’re sending between San Francisco and Frankfurt. Earlier this week the airline decided it was about darn time to bring back the Airbus A380 for this daily nonstop option, and that means there’s a lot more room for a lot more people looking to head from California to Germany.

The flights leave SFO around 3pm local time and arrive overseas just before 11am local time—the next day. There’s even a little bit of a sale, as round trip flights can be had for around $1,400 including taxes and fees between now and the middle of May.
