NYC's New Catalpa Festival Could Become the East Coast Coachella

SXSW might be over but the year's music festival scene is just getting started and it includes one new fest that New Yorkers can call their own.

The initial line-up for the inaugural Catalpa Festival, which will be held on Randall’s Island on July 28th and 29th 2012, has just been announced and includes performances by The Black Keys, Snoop Dogg, TV On The Radio, City and Colour, Umphrey's McGee, The Big Pink, AraabMuzik, Felix Da Housecat and Fort Atlantic.

The event will also feature "a Taste of New York" with food from some of the city's best eateries, Art Installations, a Silent Disco Tent, and a structure built by Arcadia, a sculpture-based organization that takes military scraps and turns them into "positive environments for the purpose of celebrating life." Sound like something else, maybe? Perhaps...Coachella?

But the most unique feature of this fest might be the Church of Sham Marriages. The inflatable church will be available for anyone who wants to have an impromptu fake wedding with the "pimp pastor." Or, if you want to get married for real—because we all know nothing says love like an inflatable church—they'll arrange that for you too.

Early Bird Weekend Passes for the Catalpa Festival are currently on sale for $99, or $134 including the ferry. To learn more about the fest, buy tickets, or plan your wedding, visit catalpanyc.com.
