Vision Airlines Drops Some Cities, Makes Us Nervous

February 28, 2012 at 9:24 AM | by | Comment (1)

Vision Airlines kind of stormed onto the scene with low fares and unique routes, but now we’re a little concerned that the dream might be over. Right now it’s business as usual for the carrier, and if you head on over to their website they’re still busy advertising nonstop flights to make your next vacation that much better. However, we have noticed a few warning signs—and we’re not the only ones—that might be hinting at a short future for Vision Airlines.

First and foremost the airline is still flying around, so if you have tickets booked in the next few days you’re probably fine. What we’ve noticed is that they’ve started scaling back on destinations and flight cancellations have become the norm rather than the exception. Vision Airlines has already announced that they’re pulling out of the Atlanta market, and it sounds like they stopped their flights out of Northwest Florida Regional Airport over the weekend. There’s even reports that the carrier is saying goodbye to Grand Bahama as well, as those international options will fade into the sunset as soon as the middle of March.

The airline’s website is still advertising options to spots like the Bahamas and Atlanta, so we’re not really sure if they’re in denial at this point or if they just got rid of the folks who update the website. Honestly if we were holding some Vision Airlines seats we would be a little nervous right now, but we’ll stay optimistic and hope that they can shuffle planes here and there to keep things flying well into the future.

called Vision

I called Vision Airlines yesterday, Feb 27, and they said they are still selling flights through April. They said even if they stop flying to certain destinations in mid-march, BahamasAir will operate those flights through April. So obviously I called BahamasAir, and they told me they are not confirming when/if they are taking over any Vision Airlines flights. I really want to go to Grand Bahama Island in the end of April for a vacation, but it seems like I can't buy a flight and book a hotel yet. I hope BahamasAir will confirm soon if they'll take over Vision Airlines flights in April, so I can feel confident enough to buy a ticket.
