Where to Drink During the Miami International Boat Show, Starting Today

The Miami International Boat Show kicks off today, and you can already tell, from the ghastly traffic. (Hint: take a scooter or a DecoBike—or even, dare we say it, a boat.)

Aside from the opportunity to gawk at power boats, mega-yachts and all the tanned, leathery rich people who own them, the five-day event is a great excuse to drink alongside sailors and said tanned rich people. After all, you never know when you may get an invitation to party on someone's yacht.

Here are our top picks for where to drink during Boat Show weekend:

1. Monty's: This outdoor raw bar with a pool is located at the Miami Beach Marina, making it an awesome year-round choice for tiki-bar drinks and stone crabs. This weekend, it will be a zoo, but in the merriest of ways. Considering the cost of some of the boats docked alongside it, Monty's is refreshingly laidback and often rowdy.

2. Lucy's Cantina Royale: The Boat Show H.Q. is the Miami Beach Convention Center, which means pretty much any hotel bar along South Beach is going to be full of boat enthusiasts and vendors throughout the weekend. Skip the overpriced lobby bar cocktails and head to this new beachfront joint in the backyard of the Shelborne South Beach. Margaritas are $9 each and there's a dizzying number of tequilas available to wash down your fish tacos.

3. Sharkey's: The Strictly Sail portion of the Boat Show is taking place downtown, at Miamarina. The surrounding outdoor tourist mall, Bayside Marketplace, is home to a Hooter's and a Bubba Gump but beer fiends will find a good selection at this one divey bar amongst the shlocky stuff.

4. Zuma: If you're trying to chat up a really wealthy boat owner after scoping out Strictly Sail, head over to this high-end, beloved-by-the-stars Japanese restaurant inside the EPIC Hotel. Just make sure you bring your black AMEX.

5. Sugarcane: Anyone heading to the Sea Isle Marina & Yachting Center site of the Boat Show is perfectly placed to hit up Midtown Miami and the Design District, post-boat-gawking. This bar and grill has a great tapas menu, a solid wine list and lots of creative cocktails--not to mention a huge outdoor terrace.
