There’s still a lot of stuff to work out, but apparently they have already hired a former airline executive as their new CEO. Paperwork is being pushed as needed to get things ready for Uncle Sam at both the FAA and US Department of Transportation. PEOPLExpress—we’re already tired of that stylization—will utilize Boeing 737s to get passengers to here and there, and the plan is to have enough seats for like 158 people per flight.
We kind of feel like we’re rambling on and on, but we are pretty excited to see how this shakes out. The PEOPLExpress website is already up and running, so you can see that they’ve got their eyes on destinations like Pittsburgh, Providence, West Palm Beach and Newark with plans to eventually expand over to Boston and Orlando too. They’ll have a frequent flyer program called SMARTbank, and they’re already offering deals and discounts through something they’re calling Club Travelati.
The website looks good to us, their COO has written an explanation of why they're doing what they're doing, and they're cranking up Twitter and Facebook presences as well. A small part of us feels like this could actually get off the ground. They actually seem somewhat organized and prepared and they're moving quickly, so you know we’ll continue to follow the story until they’re finally up in the air...if they make it that far. Oh, and if you're looking for a job, the plan is to start hiring as soon as May.
