Airlines Add Flights for Bowl Season

We’ve known for a little bit about who’s going to play in the 2013 BCS National Championship Game, and now it’s time to get the fans from Notre Dame and Alabama down to Florida for next year’s other big game. All the football fun in the sun is set to take place at Sun Life Stadium in Miami Gardens, Florida, and the airlines are now boosting flights to get all the fans there in time for kickoff.

Southwest Airlines posted on their blog that they’re ready for the game, as they’re adding extra flights for the game on January 7, 2013. On January 5 they’re adding two nonstop between Chicago-Midway—that’s kind of near South Bend, Indiana—and Ft. Lauderdale. They’re also adding nonstops between Birmingham and Ft. Lauderdale. Clearly there will be a little bit of a drive on both ends of the journey—except from those leaving from Alabama—but that’s better than driving the whole way.

Other airlines have more direct service, and one of them that has already announced a boosted schedule is Delta. They’re starting additional flights on January 4, and are continuing to fly them through January 8. Additional flights include options between both Birmingham and Huntsville nonstop into Miami. Of course they didn’t forget about the Fighting Irish, as nonstops between South Bend and Miami will also be available.

It’s not just the BCS National Championship Game either, as airlines are already beefing up their schedules for games like the Rose Bowl, Fiesta Bowl, and Sugar Bowl. Just realize you’re going to be paying a premium for the option to take some of these new flights, so if you’re thinking about booking now is as good of a time as ever.
