American Airlines and US Airways May Get Together for the Holidays

If you were thinking that you needed to get a gift for both American Airlines and US Airways this holiday season—we’ve got good news—you might only need to get them one combo gift. The on-again-off-again merger rumors seem to be heating up once again, and it seems like it’s more likely than ever to finally take shape. Things can obviously change and any merger will take some time to finalize and complete, but here’s what it’s looking like this week.
Pilots over at American Airlines are totally cool with a new contract, and that’s just one step that could eventually get them onboard with a potential merger. We won’t go into all the details about what they’ve agreed to it, but they’re getting raises and the new contract should keep salaries safe no matter what happens.
Additionally it sounds like US Airways has fired up the PowerPoint slides, as they might have already sent over a formal merger proposal to the officials at American Airlines. It's speculation at this point, but if all goes according to plan the new airline could be valued at around a cool $8.5 billion.
Both airlines have been keeping it zipped when asked for comment, but more speculation indicates that things could be decided upon as early as January. For now, it’s business as usual—but who knows what your summer flights will look like.
