Five Airport Spots to Score This Winter's Flu Shot

‘Tis the season to be jolly, but it’s also the time of year when coughs, colds, and congestion decide to make an appearance. Flu season isn’t particularly fun for anyone, but you might just be able to prevent it from happening right at the airport. The concourses and terminals have been setting up flu clinics and kiosks, and here’s just five airports when you can stop in for a shot of your own.

Chicago – O’Hare

There’s lots of distractions available when flying to or through Chicago—many of them food related—but if you’re looking to do your public health duty they’ve got you covered as well. The O’Hare Medical Clinic in Terminal 2 offers up seasonal influenza vaccines, and it sounds like they’ll even do a little bit more. Appointments aren’t necessary, and you can even swing by for a general tune-up—think cholesterol screenings, other vaccinations, and stuff like that. If you can’t make it to the main clinic they’ll be setting up some kiosks too, so just look around while heading towards your gate.

At the city’s Hartsfield–Jackson Atlanta International Airport there are a whole lot of travelers doing their best to catch their flights, but for those that have a little bit of time there’s a chance to grab your flu shot as well. They’ve been doing this for a few years now, and 2012 is no different. AeroClinic offers up routine and preventive care, and they do it all from Atrium Level 3 of the Main Terminal. Flu shots are also available at kiosks scattered about the concourses, so they’re kind of all over the place.

San Francisco

Before you do the security shuffle you might just want to swing by for a flu shot when traveling out of SFO. Seasonal vaccines are yours for the taking thanks to the folks at the SFO Medical Clinic. It’s on the departures and ticketing level of the man international terminal—like on the A side. They want you to give them a little warning that you’re coming on down, so take a second and make an appointment.

New York-JFK

Technically this isn’t in the airport, but it’s pretty much right next door. The Airport Medical Offices are located on airport property, as they have set up shop at Building 22A. They’re open on a walk-in basis 24/7, but they do prefer that you try to schedule an appointment during the usual business hours. They’ve got a similar set-up over at Newark-Liberty, so feel free to call ‘em up if you’re in need of some medical care—even if it’s just a flu shot.

Carehere! Walk-in Clinic and Wellness Store is located in Concourse C, and they’ve got what you need during this year’s sickness season. Not only do they offer up flu shots and other vaccinations, but they also can provide a little illness care if you’re feeling under the weather. They’ve got a pharmacy on site, over-the-counter stuff, and we’re pretty sure there’s some snacks too—always need those to feel better.
