American Airlines Ups Their App Game and Throws in Bonus Miles

Just in time for the hectic holiday travel season it looks like American Airlines has released an update to some of their travel apps. That’s a good thing, because it’s almost a guarantee that you’re going to need to do the gate, terminal, or concourse shuffle on your way home—or on your way out—to visit friends and family.

The app updates for iPhone, iPad, and iPod build upon their former offerings. Expect more flight information with the ability to change seats, load up your boarding pass, and set reminders to figure out where the heck that you parked your car. iPhone and iPod updates bring additional Passbook support, but many of the bigger enhancements are heading straight to the iPad app.

You’ll have better access to check all those AAdvantage miles, and that way you can rationalize visiting the relatives—that much closer to an award ticket to somewhere else. There’s even an interactive globe thing that reveals flights and options between city pairs. The new perks and plusses make it a must-download for us, and of course it’s all free.

BONUS! What makes the app even more worth it is the iPad game. It’s called "Know It All," and when played on WiFi flights it offers the chance to battle against other fliers on your flight.

Best of all, to promote the new game American Airlines is giving away 100,000 American Airlines AAdvantage bonus miles through the end of 2012. Just visit their Facebook page, and give them a “Like” in order to enter. They’re even giving away another 100,000 miles to the highest score recorded on the iPad version of the Know It All game, so download the app and start clicking away.
