Alaska, Austrian Airlines and Frontier Bring Plenty New Route News This Week

Sometimes it’s hard to stay on top of all the new route announcements that come our way, so we’ve complied a little bit of a rundown below. As long as you can afford the fares, this should definitely help add to your passport stamp collection.

· Alaska Airlines:
To us it’s pretty clear that Alaska Airlines may like Hawaii even more than Alaska. They're about to send even more love out to the islands, as once again they’ve announced another nonstop flight over to Hawaii. This time it looks like San Diego will be getting a flight right over to Kauai—Lihue to be specific.

The flights will start up on June 7 of next year, and will be a nice compliment to the other flights out of San Diego to the islands of Maui and Oahu. That’s not the end of the news, as Alaska Airlines is also linking San Diego with Boston beginning on March 29. They might be totally different destinations, but if you’re in San Diego both Hawaii and Massachusetts are now one flight closer.

· Austrian Airlines:
It’s time for yet another new nonstop flight over to Europe. The plan is to connect Chicago with Vienna beginning on May 17, 2013, five times per week. Boeing 767s will be doing the heavy lifting across the Atlantic, and the flights will have lie-flat beds up in the business class cabin as well as a new in-flight entertainment system in both cabins. In total there will be around 26 nonstop flights between North America and Europe next summer, so no matter when you need to go—Austrian Airlines has got you covered.

· JetBlue:
We don’t like to play favorites, but we have a special place in our hearts for new route news from JetBlue (plus they always seem to have some!). This week they’re adding to their route map, as the carrier just announced that they’ll be doing the first nonstop flight from New York-JFK all the way over to Albuquerque.

The flights to New Mexico begin on April 22 of next year, and will run each and every day of the week all year long. This is destination number 77 from JetBlue—congrats—and it’ll even allow connections to other neat spots for those heading out of Albuquerque. The flights out to New Mexico leave around 8:30pm local time, and heading back to New York it is a redeye flight leaving around midnight local time.

· Frontier:
For those who call New Jersey home we’ve got some new route news for you, and for once it has nothing to do with flying in or out of Newark-Liberty. This time the new flights are heading to and from Trenton-Mercer airport, as Frontier is ready to expand their footprint at the airport. Fort Lauderdale, Fort Myers, Tampa, and even New Orleans are all on the schedule beginning at the end of January, and there are even some special introductory fares to be had. One-way flights can be had between $69 and $89, but just be sure to book before November 29 to get in on the deal.

· Lufthansa:
So you’ve already tackled the sights and sounds of Europe’s major cities and destinations and now it’s time to take a vacation from your vacation. Lufthansa is already preparing for next year’s summer season, as they’ll be flying their planes in full force to warm and sunny destinations across the Mediterranean and beyond.

New options for 2013 include flights to Mahón on the island of Menorca, as nonstop flights will be arriving to and from Munich, Düsseldorf, Hamburg, and Berlin. Also, in Spain they’re looking to connect passengers to the Andalusian city of Jerez de la Frontera from both Düsseldorf and Frankfurt. They’re not done there either, as finally Lufthansa is also planning to link the capital of Wales—Cardiff—with Düsseldorf. It might not be a beach destination, but the castles and scenery should do the trick.
