Dear Frequent Flyers, Delta Wants to Know Your Twitter Deets
Do this today: Let Delta know you're on Twitter.
In case you haven't already seen, Delta launched a massive website redesign over this last weekend, their first redo since 2010. The site is clean, visually engaging (ours opened to a large image of the Brooklyn Bridge) andbetter yetincludes features designed to sync with your social media life.
As we're leaving on a Delta jet plane tomorrow, we logged in to check a few things and noticed Delta now not only encourages you to link your Facebook profile to their site, but they'd also like to know your Twitter handle, pretty please.
As their @DeltaAssist account has been successfully helping flyers for a few years now, we're not so surprised they're asking for our details back. We are however surprised that Delta is still perhaps the only airline actively incorporating a Twitter handle into the loyalty accounts of their travelers.
Here's how to tell them your Twitter name:
Sign into your SkyMiles account at Delta.com > Go to My Delta > View My Profile >
On the "Basic Info" bar at left, click "Open" in the top right-hand corner. Scroll down the page to find the box to enter your Twitter handle.
While there's no word on how exactly this information will be used, it's better safe than sorry when it comes to airfare sale alerts and SkyMiles account communication. Personally we'd much rather receive a flight update tweet at us than have to check an email, but of course it's only a very tiny (but growing) percent of the traveling population who feel similarly.
Still, why not? Be an early adopter.
