New Zealand Continues 'Hobbit'-Mania as Characters Conquer a Building

Wellington Airport isn't the only landmark in New Zealand being taken over by giant characters from The Hobbit.

In anticipation of the world premiere of The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, huge silhouettes of 14 characters from the movie have been installed on the fifth story of the New Zealand Post House, a 12-story office tower at 7 Waterloo Quay, Wellington, New Zealand.

Installing 13 giant Dwarves and their buddy Bilbo wasn't easy considering the Post House is on the windiest corner in Wellington.

“We wanted to celebrate these momentous movies in a very public way, which reflected the enormous positive impact which comes from having films like these produced in New Zealand’s capital,” said Simon Allison, New Zealand Post’s spokesman on stamps and coins.

The figures are also a reminder that New Zealand Post is producing a line of official stamps and legal tender commemorative coins for all three upcoming Hobbit films, the first of which go on sale today.

You can see the new Hobbit art installation at the Post House through early 2013 and purchase the exclusive stamps and coins at stamps.nzpost.co.nz/thehobbit.
