NYC's Entertainment Industry Finally Getting Back on Track after Sandy

Thanks to the shut down of mass transit and lingering power outages left behind by Hurricane Sandy, New York City's entertainment industry ground to a halt on Sunday, and is just starting to get back on track today.

In anticipation of the hurricane, all Broadway shows shut down on Sunday and remained dark until today. But, most performances will go on as scheduled today. For those who had tickets to a show that was canceled, The Broadway Theater League is offering refunds and exchanges.

The week hasn't been any better for the dozens of TV shows and films currently shooting in NYC. Production was shut down on all filmed-in-New York series and movies on Monday and isn't expected to be back in full swing until next week. Of course, the irony that the film Noah, which has been filming in a life-size replica of Noah's Ark on Long Island, was shut down by a flood wasn't been lost on anyone, especially the movie's star, Emma Watson.

Sandy also wreaked havoc on New York's talk shows, leaving David Letterman and Jimmy Fallon without audiences and forcing Jimmy Kimmel to cancel his first show from his childhood hometown, Brooklyn. Yesterday evening saw most talk shows were back on the air (with audiences). "A lot has changed since I lived in Brooklyn, Kimmel quipped about the storm on Tuesday. For instance, the last time I was here I don’t remember a hurricane trying to murder me."
