Chicago-O'Hare Airport is Getting a Decent Coffee Bar! (and so much more)

Look at that. Just look at those photos above. Chicago-O'Hare Airport is moving on up, yo.

Come Fall 2013, travelers heading out of O'Hare's Terminal 5 will find 15 new dining and retail vendors, plus fresh passenger amenities thanks to a massive transformation of the terminal, which was built in 1993 and has 24 airlines operating from it. The airport is using words like "luxurious," "sophisticated," and "lavish" to describe the new design, which isn't hard to see given the before-and-after images up top.

Right away we'll confess that we're most psyched for the arrival of an Intelligentsia coffee bar, especially seeing as how we ranted about bad airport coffee last winter after flying out of O'Hare. Still, there's more to get excited about...

Retail: Bvlgari, Michael Kors, Salvatore Ferragamo, Emporio Armani, Vosges Haut Chocolat, Swatch, XpresSpa (with expanded spa services), Hudson News and Chicago souvenirs (of course).

Dining: Tortas Frontera, Natural Break, Tocco (neapolitan pizza), Local Headlines Bar, Hub 51, Urban Olive, Big Bowl and Wow Bao (yesssss--one of our favorite Chicago fast food stops).

While we're hyperventilating over the developments in Chicago, it's worth noting that Detroit-Metro Airport also made an announcement this week regarding an update the retail and dining in their giant McNamara Terminal (home to Delta flights). The full gallery of renderings is on their Facebook page, but we'll spoil the surprise by telling you the two coolest newcomers to DTW: Dylan's Candy Bar and Porsche Design (which will make DTW the first airport in the Americas with a Porsche Design shop)!
