October 12, 2012 at 2:25 PM
DOC NYC, New York City's Documentary Festival, is back for a third year on Nov. 8 - 15, 2012. The festival, which will be held at Greenwich Village’s IFC Center and the School of Visual Arts Theatre in Chelsea, aims to celebrate documentary film as a "cultural phenomenon" and "encourages its new directions."
Among this year's highlights are the U.S. premiere of Artifact, which follow the band Thirty Seconds to Mars as they fight a lawsuit with their record label Virgin/EMI, Venus and Serena, which looks into the lives of the Williams sisters during the most intimidating year of their careers, and The Central Park Five, about the five black and Latino teenagers who were wrongfully charged with raping a white female jogger in Central Park in 1989. In all, 115 films will be included in the week long fest.
“This festival offers something for everyone,” said DOC NYC artistic director Thom Powers. “Whether you love music, politics, sports, travel, photography, nature or you name it, we’ve got a film for you."
Tickets for all films are on sale to the general public this afternoon. Tickets for all festival films, panels and events are $16.50 for adults, while Gala event tickets range from $25 - $75, and DOC-A-THON general admission tickets are $12. Insider Passes are also available for $99 and provide access to all films, panels, and events starting before 5:00 pm Monday-Friday at the IFC Center.
Passes and Tickets can be purchased online at the official site or in person at DOC NYC’s main box office at IFC Center (323 Sixth Avenue at West Third Street, open daily 10:30 am–10 pm).
