Wish You Were Here: Gold Coast, Australia

The mercury is beginning to drop and autumn is right around the corner. At the same time, things are doing the opposite and heating up Down Under. Soon, the sun will be shining with the southern summer in Australia

We come to you now from the Gold Coast of said continent. The name of the specific city: Surfers Paradise. With beach after beach as far as the eye can see, we understand why it's considered the playground for the nation. Sun, sand and surf are some of the more popular attractions for the region, but nature walks, wineries and paragliding are all part of the fun.

Originally a sleepy beach area, the Gold Coast has continued to grow into the 6th largest city council in Australia. With skyscrapers like Q1 (the nation's tallest) sprouting up everywhere, the city still stretches to embrace its vintage beach vibe from the 1950s and '60s. One carry-over are the gold bikini-clad "meter maids" who deposit coins into expired meters to boost tourism.

Off the beach for a day, we headed 1 hour into the hinterland and headed up to the top of Mount Tambourine. Up here, it's all killer 360-degree views of both the coastline and the metropolis, plus the river valley that plays host to a system of national parks.

Later this month the city will be filled with excitement as it hosts the Grand Prix Formula 1 car races. But whatever your reason to visit the "Glitter Strip," we're sure you'll agree that it's absolute paradise. Wish you were here!
