It's a Bird, It's a Plane, It's 'Superman' Filming in Chicago This Weekend

Tomorrow, Plano, IL will become Smallville as a stretch of Main Street (between Harve Street and Hale Street) is closed to film a scene for Superman: Man of Steel. The shoot comes as no surprise to locals who have watched crews building storefront facades on Main St. for weeks.

For life-long Superman fans, rural Illinois has become a tourist destination as the movie has not only turned Plano into Smallville, but they've also brought the Kent farm to life in Oswego, IL, and have transformed a local elementary school into the Smallville School District.

It's also been reported that Superman will fly into the Chicago Loop on Sunday (8/7) to begin filming a large scene which will take more than a week to complete.

Henry Cavill stars as the latest incarnation of Clark Kent/Superman, along with Amy Adams as Lois Lane, Diane Lane and Kevin Costner as Superman's earth parents, Martha and Jonathan Kent, and Russell Crowe as Jor-El.

Once filming wraps in Illinois later this month, the entire production will move to Vancouver where they will finish up the movie this fall, though it won't hit theaters until 2013.
