Don't Be That Guy: Angry Drunk Threatens to Stab British Airways Pilot Mid-Flight

As a site that tracks the best in-flight cocktails on a monthly basis, we like to think that our credibility on booze travel is pretty good. While we do occasionally post the random teetotaling dispatch, on the whole you're more likely to find Jaunted posts with phases like "Avion Tequila" and "Eucalyptus Liquor". We are not uninclined toward mixing travel with fine spirits, is what we're saying.

That's why it's so frustrating to have to write about people like this douchebag, who got so drunk he threatened to stab a British Airways pilot with a shard of glass after flight attendants cut him off.

Our don't be that guy object lesson was flying from PHX to LHR in business class. Apparently he decided that the extra $100 he paid for his ticket entitled him to ruin everyone else's 10-hour flight.

His bad behavior included "repeatedly shouting, swearing and stumbling around, while spitting at those who tried to calm him." Eventually he assaulted a member of the cabin crew and demanded to know why they wouldn't serve him any more drinks. What an inscrutable mystery that must have been.

His overarching crime—and yes, of course he was arrested as soon as the plane landed—involved that piece of broken glass that he was clutching, and with which he threatened to stab the pilots. Turns out that airline safety officials take a dim view of that sort of thing, and so police were waiting for him at the terminal.

We'd pause to ask how an obviously drunk and abusive passenger managed to get a de facto weapon on board an international flight, but let's not water down what this post is actually about. And that is, what a monumental, unbelievable, inexcusably grating tool this guy is.
