Forks at the Ready! New York Restaurant Week Begins Right Now
Ready...steady...EAT! Today is the first day of the two-week-long NY Restaurant Week, and although we've had our reservations booked for a bit now, the excitement hasn't died. Here's the deal: twice a year, many of New York's fanciest restaurants offer a reduced prix fixe meal of three course, for $35 at dinner and $24.07 at lunch. This is the summer edition, and thus we suggest aiming for restaurants with alfresco options.
Bookings opened almost two weeks ago, but that doesn't mean you'll be left out in the heat. Several places, like Chelsea hotspot Rocking Horse Cafe and theatre district mainstay Joe Allen, only accept phoned-in resys, meaning you may still have a chance because sometimes, people are just lazy if they can't book it online immediately.
Just keep in mind that restaurant week meals can be hit or miss, as restaurants either see it as a week to skimp or show off. You want the ones that show off, obviously, and a steady favorite of ours (with a surprisingly diverse Restaurant Week menu) is The Modern's Bar Room. Many restaurant have already uploaded their planned menus, just to help with the decision-making. Check them all out here, and remember to set up a free account on OpenTable so you can keep track of your reservations and earn points toward dining certificates. We redeemed one last restaurant week, so it workstrust us.
Bon appetit!
