The Boeing 787 Sticks to Its Schedule, Pisses Off Richard Branson
Every week we get a little bit closer to the first Boeing 787 taking flight filled with plenty of paying passengers. By now you probably know that ANA is the first airline with access to the brand new bird, but with things going pretty well there are some other airlines scheduled for delivery too.
It looks like LAN Airlines should be one of the next in line to receive a plane, so you might be able to visit Latin America rather than Japan for your virgin flight on one of the new planes. However, you will probably have to wait until early next year, because even though Boeing reconfirmed that the third quarter of 2011 is when the planes will finally arrive—they’re certainly pretty back ordered.
As with all positive 787 news, there’s always something slightly negative to talk about, and this week’s bad Boeing news is thanks to Sir Richard Branson. He may have a lot on his mind with that upcoming in-flight drag performance, he still has time to worry about his company’s bottom line.
Apparently Branson is a little pissed that he’s not getting his 787s for Virgin Atlantic for quite some time and he'd like some money for the delays. Additionally he’s speaking out, calling the whole thing a nightmare. In any case, Richard has lemur mouths to feed now, so more money back in his pocket is a good thing.
