In-Flight Ice Cream Arrives on Delta Just In Time for the Warmer Weather

We need to cut back on our in-flight calorie intake, as we’ve been hitting the airline meals pretty hard lately. The only problem is that it’s going to be difficult thanks to Delta’s latest in-flight snack that’s landing just in time for summer.

Delta is planning to roll out some new options to its buy-on-board EATS menu at the beginning of June, and the one that we’re looking forward to most involves Ben & Jerry’s Ice Cream. Of course Cherry Garcia will be an option—along with Vanilla—but unfortunately there will be no Phish Food or Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough. The sweet treats will be available on longer flights—like 1,800 miles or more—and will set you back just $2.50. That’s a great price, but we’re thinking it’s for one of the smaller sizes, so you won’t be able to down the full pint in an episode of tray table gluttony.

There’s other stuff too in case you don’t like ice cream. The airline is bringing a new Kids Plate to the flight attendant snack arsenal for just $4.50, and it will include a PB&J sandwich along with some apples, grapes, and carrot sticks. They’re also starting to sell gum—Wrigley’s 5 Rain to be specific—for just $2 a pack. We usually stock up on this at Hudson News, but at least it’s an option for those with stinky in-flight breath.

For those that need a little more than a scoop of ice cream to relax, there’s also a couple new in-flight booze options. Delta is introducing some kind of flavored Jack Daniels cocktail to the beverage cart, along with margaritas. Each of these suckers will set you back $7, and we’ll probably try to get our hands on one ASAP. Keep an eye out for a full review, as long as they deserve a mention as an in-flight cocktail of the month.

Showing signs...

I have to say I have never flown Delta. Why? The investigations they do (did?) of their customers private lives when Delta had the unfortunate problem of a plane crashing. The turmoil they put their customer's remaining family members through was unwarranted. This from a report from 60 minutes many years ago. With recent customer service changes and changes for the good like Ice cream in the summer lead me to think that I may give them a chance, should the opportunity arise, in the future.
