Tax day is coming, and you are excited not because you look forward to sifting through receipts and credit card statements, but because you're getting a fat refund...probably. The economy may be on its way back up, but you should try to stretch that tax refund as far as you can.

The days are ticking down until tax day, but you should start planning now for your Uncle Sam-funded vacation. When you get your refund, head South of the Border to Mexico.

Mexico is a perfect place to make the most of your refund, since you can regularly find all-inclusive packages to the destination on sites like Travelzoo and Kayak Deals. It's a popular spot for spring breakers, too, many of whom flood places like Cancun in April.

Obviously, Mexico is an easy place to visit, locationwise. And there are tons of beautiful beachside towns that you can choose. Maybe give Playa del Carment a try: Right now there's a deal that's 50 percent off: a seven-night vacay that includes airfare, hotel, food and premium alcohol for $749.

Mexico is a good place to visit year-round. It does have a hurricane season from June to October, but that mainly affects the Yucatan Peninsula and the southern coast along the Pacific. It also has norte season, which causes northerly winds and showers in many resort spots from late November to mid-January.

There's lots to do in the country. It has a number of World Heritage Sites, like the Prehistoric Caves of Yagul and Mitla in Oaxaca's Central Valley; excellent food; a plethora of water activities and sports; and lots of places to shop for folk art and crafts. Though its beaches and tequila are the things that make it most popular this time of the year.
