A Giant Pink Rabbit Attacked TSA with Confetti. Happy Easter!

The Reuters headline for this story—keeping in mind that Reuters has to remain at least somewhat professional and objective—is "Crazy Bunny Lady Irks TSA, Gets Arrested." Just from that, you can already tell that everyone involved in this airport security dust-up is going to be very special indeed. There's even confetti involved, because why wouldn't there be?

The video below provides more extensive background, but the basics are straightforward enough. Valerie Baul is a professional clown who dresses up as a gigantic green and pink rabbit and juggles eggs at parties. While going through a PHL checkpoint with a basket of fake eggs, she was asked by the airport's TSA agents to explain the purpose of the colorful trifles. Perhaps in an attempt to demonstrate that purpose, Ms. Baul cracked open one of the fake eggs on the agent's forehead, spraying confetti everywhere including the poor agent's clothes and hair.

It turns out that there are a lot of things you're not allowed to do in an airport—we actually discussed a few of them earlier this week—and that is one of them. The Crazy Bunny Lady was promptly arrested and now faces charges for harassing a TSA agent.

Stipulating in advance that PHL has a particularly problematic bunch of TSA bad apples, we can't really see our way to sympathizing with the passenger here. Confetti or not, harmless or not, kind of funny or not—you don't really get to do that in the real world. That's just not how we've set things up.

Which isn't to say that you guys shouldn't be thankful for her antics. Today's TSA story was was either going to be this or a snoozer about how Congress still can't figure out who has oversight over TSA. Years ago the 9/11 Commission specifically said "you know, someone should figure out who's responsible for making sure TSA agents are doing their job, because their job is to prevent terrorism" and as of this week...still not so much. Ah well. At least they're keeping our flights safe from giant rabbits.

This Even Made The News In Britain...

Someone told me this made the news in Britain (although I can't find anything on the <a href="http://www.http://www.bbc.co.uk">BBC website</a> about it). ANd people wonder why the rest of the world think Americans have a screw loose! :-)
