Doing your taxes this weekend, maybe? Odds are, you're going to need a breather and the perfect diversion is totally on the schedule: Saturday, April 16 is officially Foursquare Day. New York City's real mayor Mike Bloomberg proclaims it so, but that's in addition to similar proclamations from cities as diverse as Corpus Christi, TX and Toronto, ON. This will be New York City's first official social media holiday, but the second annual Foursquare Day, as last year a group of friends in Tampa, FL began the movement, thanks to the love of the popular location-based social network.

The date 4/16 is significant because it is 4, squared. It's also noteworthy because Foursquare Day has blown up this year to become a worldwide thing, with cities and businesses hosting events, giving away free stuff, or putting a charity spin on the revelry for Foursquare's 7 million users.

We're proud to say that we've been fans and avid users of Foursquare since we first got a whiff of its potential to clue in travelers. That was late summer 2009, if you can believe it, and we haven't tired of checking in to read tips by those who've been before and know what's good and notable. So we're celebrating Foursquare Day in our own special way...

If you aren't already our friend on Foursquare, be our friend now, because we're going to add tons more priceless travel tips this weekend. We've already unloaded a bit of our firsthand knowledge with a slew of tips, but there's always more to be shared. There's more to learn about Frankfurt than just what to buy at the gummy candy shop Bären-Treff!

...Or how about where to go to get a rental cell phone and the best combo transport pass when you arrive at Tokyo's Narita Airport?

Here are some more tips for getting the most out of 2011's Foursquare Day:
· FIJI Water is hosting their first social media scavenger hunt in downtown San Diego on Saturday. Winner gets a trip to Fiji! See more information on this here.
· Check in at Wow Bao in Chicago on 4/16 and eat free (up to a $7.50 value, which is a lot of bao). Proof.
· Take your social networking to the next level by checking in via the beer-centric Untappd web app and pushing your check-in to Foursquare. You'll get a special badge and be able to see where else other 4sq Day partiers are celebrating.
· Las Vegas is corralling food trucks for their festivities. More info here.
· Tampa is doing free CPR training with a charitable angle for the benefit of Japan. More info here.

If you want to search your city to view local 4sq day events, the official site is RIGHT HERE. Have fun and remember to check us out:
