San Francisco's Shiny New Terminal 2 Opens Today for American and Virgin America Flyers
Want a cupcake? No problemjust head to San Francisco International's new Terminal 2, which officially opens to flights today (with free cupcakes at check-in). The airlines operating out of T2 are Virgin America and America Airlines, so double-check your flights from now on to see if you're getting to travel out of the cooler terminal.
In store for travelers at T2 is everything from interactive art (like tables that play like xylophones) to water fountains specifically designed for refilling your water bottles. And don't forget the food! Come early and come hungry, because T2 has a Pinkberry, a Vino Volo wine bar, a whole restaurant by Iron Chef Cat Cora, a burger joint, a fresh market and more.
Perhaps our favorite part of playing around in new terminal is noticing the cool design touches. Sure, Terminal 2 has attained LEED Gold for its eco-friendly construction and operations, but it has also managed to be a green-conscious terminal filled with iconic designlike the red Arne Jacobsen egg chairsand state-of-the-art technology with free WiFi throughout and outlets where you would most need them.
For all this and for an actually enjoyable airport experience, you can thank Gensler, the architecture firm also behind the beauty that is JFK's Terminal 5 and DTW's North Terminal redevelopment. A round of solid applause!
